Miniature Punch Needle with Linda Repasky
Explore a new way to use wool! This easy-to-learn technique uses a miniature punchneedle tool and fine wool threads to create tiny “hooked rugs.” These little pieces have a rich, lush texture that is simply irresistible. They can be framed or made into wearable pins and pendants; they can also be used to embellish clothing, journals, and other objects. In this workshop, we’ll work on a project that will teach you all the skills you need to continue on your own. Bring a pair of small, sharp embroidery scissors. All other materials will be provided for use during the workshop. Supplies and equipment will be available for purchase. Materials fee: $5
Linda Repasky teaches miniature punchneedle, rug hooking, and other wool-related techniques throughout New England. She is the author of two books, Miniature Punchneedle Embroidery and A Passion for Punchneedle.
1:15 pm — 2:30 pm
Cables & Bobbles: Techniques to Embellish your Knitting
with Meta Nisbet of Metaphor Yarns, Shelburne MA
Cables and Bobbles are the sweater elements that make Irish Knits so unique. Designers include cables on long stretches of garments to give them dimension and texture while bobbles feel like popcorn to the touch. Come to this workshop to see how to add these shaping features to plain knit and purl by twisting the yarn as you go or knitting several times into one stitch. It will make your knitting enter a new realm of fun. Bring size 8 needles (straight or circular) and some stash yarn.
